Senecio Stapeliiformis - Pickle Plant 4” pot
Senecio Stapeliiformis - Pickle Plant 4” pot
Senecio stapeliiformis is a striking, upright succulent with pencil-like, blue-green stems marked by subtle purple striping. Small, soft spines line the ribs, giving it a sculptural, architectural look. It is easy to care for and well suited to bright indoor spaces or sunny patios.
Light
Bright light to full sun.
At least 4–6 hours of direct sun encourages compact growth and deeper coloration. Too little light causes stretching.
Water
Low water needs.
Water thoroughly only when the soil is completely dry. Overwatering is the most common cause of failure. Reduce watering significantly in winter.
Soil
Fast-draining cactus or succulent mix.
A gritty mix with added perlite or pumice is ideal.
Temperature & Humidity
Prefers warm, dry conditions.
Ideal range: 65–85°F.
Protect from frost; not cold hardy below 30–35°F.
Growth Habit
Upright, clumping stems that can branch over time.
Slow to moderate growth.
Maintenance
Very low maintenance.
Remove dried stems if needed. Repot every 2–3 years or when rootbound.
Propagation
Easy to propagate from stem cuttings.
Allow cut ends to callous before planting in dry soil.
Pet Safety
Toxic to pets if ingested.
Keep out of reach of cats, dogs, and other animals.
