Pachypodium 'lamerei' (Madagascar Palm)
Pachypodium 'lamerei' (Madagascar Palm)
Despite its name, the Pachypodium lamerei—commonly called the Madagascar Palm—is not a true palm but a unique succulent tree. It features a thick, spiny trunk that stores water and supports a crown of long, narrow, palm-like leaves. When mature and grown in the right conditions, it may even produce fragrant white flowers, adding to its exotic charm.
Native to Madagascar, this plant thrives in bright, direct light and well-draining soil. It is highly drought-tolerant, requiring infrequent watering—allowing the soil to dry thoroughly between waterings. Perfect for sunny windows or outdoor patios in warm climates, it adds a dramatic, architectural presence to any plant collection. Like many succulents, it’s best kept away from pets and children due to its spines and toxicity if ingested
